ABSTRACT
The objectives of academic article were to present the situation of the elderly in
Thailand, and to present guidelines for appropriate welfare for the elderly to improve the
quality of life. By studying used data from academic documents and content analysis. The
analysis shows that 1. The situation of the elderly in Thailand tends to increase every year.
The problems related to the elderly, namely 1) the system and forms of social welfare for
the elderly have limited scope 2) problems from receiving less compensation 3) the policy
characteristics of the elderly lacking integration and the lack of continuity in the
implementation of the policy. 4) The majority of the elderly lack awareness and lack of
understanding of their rights. 2. Welfare guidelines for improving the quality of life of the
elderly found that 1) There should be a specific unit that is responsible for the elderly.
2)The welfare for the elderly should cover politeness and good hygiene, having a good
education, having residence, employment, income and welfare, stability of income,
recreation and general social services. 3) The government should provide assistance to
organizations that employ the elderly. 4) The law on welfare systems for the elderly should
review and improve.
