Abstract
World heritage site and becoming world heritage site are the conservative areas
for the treasure of mankind. This research focuses on the role of local governments in the
provincial group of Thai western region such as Nakhon Pathom province, Kanchanaburi
province, Ratchaburi province, Phetchaburi province and Prachuap Khiri Khan province.
5 provinces relate with 4 sites that are Thungyai - HuaiKhaKhaeng wildlife sanctuaries, Kaeng
Krachan forest complex, death railway and Phra Pathomma pagoda. The study found that the
role of local government in the provincial group of Thai western region for the world heritage
site and the becoming world heritage site is diversity. The research shows the role of local
governments have not authority for the world heritage site and the becoming world heritage
site conservation. Besides that, the local government does not cooperates with the public
organization has authority for those sites’ conservation. The local government is not
developed for the readiness in the world heritage conversation. The local government gets
the conflict of conservation ideas in the site protection. The finally, the local government in
Thai western region cannot make understand and awareness with the local people in the
world heritage site and the becoming world heritage site’s conservation.
